A fit when…
- Your main task is publishing a regular newsletter.
- You are paying for capabilities you do not use.
- You can move without interrupting sales workflows.
Mailchimp covers a broader marketing job. MailCheap is a candidate for businesses whose actual use is much closer to a regular email publication.
Research review: 26 October 2026 · By Yusuf Muritala · Desk research, not a hands-on test.
Consider MailCheap if you mostly send issues and rarely use the rest of your marketing platform. Keep Mailchimp in the running if its integrations, segmentation or automation flows connect directly to your sales process. Audit those dependencies before treating the price gap as a saving.
Our view: look at what happened in your account during the last month. Count broadcasts, live automations and integrations that moved useful data. A suite can be poor value when barely used, but good value when it replaces several tools. The best comparison is your real workflow against a working replacement, not the longest feature list.
| Requirement | MailCheap | Mailchimp |
|---|---|---|
| Hosted free option | No hosted free plan | 250 contacts; 500 monthly sends |

| Experimentation | No built-in A/B testing | Testing options vary by plan |
| Integrations/API | MCP and REST API | Marketing API and integrations |
| Higher-tier needs | Email and subscriber allowances | Audience size and feature tier both matter |

Estimate MailCheap costs using your actual bill ↗Mailchimp’s export can contain separate CSVs by contact status. MailCheap’s guide says to import subscribed contacts and preserve unsubscribed/cleaned suppressions; do not import non-subscribed contacts as subscribers. Inventory each audience and automation before consolidating anything.
Keep your original export. Test subscriber fields, suppression status, sender identity and signup links before your first campaign. Run a small validation send and allow time for the new provider’s onboarding process. Do not cancel your existing service until the replacement works.
Its official plan guide lists 250 contacts, 500 monthly sends and a daily limit of 250 for Free. Check both the contact and send limits against your workload.
No. MailCheap’s narrower newsletter feature set should be assessed against the parts of Mailchimp you actually use.
The published comparison moves beyond Essentials’ 50,000-contact ceiling. The plan change affects both price and capabilities.
